Tips for the Care and Storage of Magnetic Signs
Preparation
Clean and dry the surface of the vehicle and the brown magnetic side of the signs with water, a mild liquid detergent and a clean, soft cloth or paper towel.
Installation
- The magnetic sign should have full contact with a steel surface. Make contact with an edge first, and gently let the full sign rest on the metal surface. Remove any air pockets. To realign the sign, remove completely and start over. Do not pull the magnetic sign to straighten it.
- The magnetic sign should be at room temperature (at least 60ºF) for best adhesion when applied to a steel surface. The temperature of the vehicle surface is not as important.
- Do not apply sign over dirt, molding, nuts, bolts or rivets.
- Do not apply sign over newly-painted surfaces (allow at least 8 -12 weeks for paint to fully cure).
- Magnetic signs will not adhere over patched surfaces (ie.- “Bondo”), or over simulated wood veneer finishes on vehicles.
Maintenance & Cleaning
- Remove magnet at least once a week and clean both the magnet and the vehicle surface underneath. Use a mild liquid soap in warm water with a clean, soft cloth or paper towel.
- If possible, remove and store the magnets on rainy or very humid days. to avoid moisture collecting under the magnets.
Storage
- Store magnetic signs flat or adhered to a metal surface like a locker or refrigerator. Do not roll the magnets.
- NEVER place magnets with brown sides together. This will cause the signs to de-magnetize and no longer be usable as magnetic signs.
